Big Move coming up

This is a sortof a new blog, sortof a continuation, after a 5 or 6 year hiatus, of singlestep.
After living in this house for about 19 years I am moving to Massachusetts to live with my best friend of about 50 years in her very large house. It will be an adjustment for both of us -- we have both been living alone for years -- but I think it will work out fine. Going from a house in Huntington Village to a house in the woods -- several miles from the main road and even further from town -- is going to be a huge adjustment. It's beautiful there though and I am looking forward to it.

We have differences -- she's vegetarian, I'm not. I'm even thinking about getting chickens, but not right away.
She is still working and commuting about an hour each way. I am retired (sounds better than unemployed) but will take a job if the opportunity arises.
She's widowed; I'm divorced. Neither recently.
She doesn't have the thrifting bug -- I do. I like sewing and crafts and hope to do more after I move. I think she does some gardening, which I don't except for a few annuals.
I like to sing with groups or at piano bars with friends or at shape note sings. She likes music, but isn't a singer.

Similarities -- obviously age and childhood friendship.
We both have unmarried, grown daughters. I also have a married son and a grandson. Unfortunately for me, they live in Switzerland.
We are both smart and both love to read. I will miss the local library.
Politically we are both on the same page. That would be the left one.

Curently reading Arcadia Falls and some essays by Martin Gardner and listening to Bite Me by Christopher Moore (on computer) and some novel by Robin Pilcher (car).
